The members of Screaming Targets have known each other for over a decade. James Stewart and Lee Klippenstein have played together in SLATES, Ben Disaster also plays in Real Sickies, and Chrispy Workun has put years into The Blame-Its. These guys have done their fair share of cross Canada and tours abroad, putting miles and miles under their feet. They’ve taken what they’ve learned over the years and applied it to Screaming Targets, a band that you won’t find on any social media platforms.

With James starting a family last year and Lee about to, the band has set their priorities a little differently then they did a decade ago. They’re not looking to become Edmonton’s next big thing. They want to jam together, write songs, and simply have a good time.

James got a lot of stuff out of his system with touring all over the place, “having done all of the grinder tours, I’m happy to just wait and see what floats along and make sure its worth while.” With a local denim business (Arturo) and family keeping him busy James says that if he has to be away from the most important parts of his life then it needs to be worth it. “You can’t be as selfish, which makes you make better decision.” Ben adds that “It has to be worth it. That doesn’t mean that it has to be worth it in the sense that you’re playing to 20,000 people, it has to be worth it in a sense that it is enriching our lives.” Just like the rest of us, these guys have evolved over time and they seem to have a clearer picture of what they want their lives to look like.

Screaming Targets recorded in San Pedro, California with one of Chrispy’s heroes Todd Congelliere of Recess Records. They do have plans to finish up their record but Lee isn’t willing to make any firm commitments until after the arrival of the newest member of his family. Screaming Targets would like to tour but any tour plans would have to be set around family schedules. Over the years their priorities have changed and they want to tour smarter and carefully choose when and where they want to go. Right now they’re happy playing in their jam space. As James explains “We’re just really enjoying playing music together”.
